I found in on some webside is posible made 4mmc this way with no NaOH
To a mixture of 11.4 g (50 mmol) of 2-bromo-4'-methylpropiophenone in 25 ml of toluene [1] at a temperature of 20 degrees C, 3.1 g of methylamine in 17.5 ml of water is added in 5 minutes. The contents of the flask are stirred at 20-25 degrees C for 16 hours (or at 0 degrees C for 24 hours, but the best results are achieved by 2 hours of operation at 50-70 degrees C). During this time, the mixture is blown through a stream of air for half an hour and poured into 150 ml of cold water. The phase is separated, the aqueous phase is extracted with 2x20 ml toluene. The combined toluene phases are extracted with 3x25 ml of water and 2x15 ml of rm HCl. The combined acid phases are washed 2x25 ml with toluene and the water is evaporated in vacuo to dryness.
