From my point of view it's difficult to compare these two methods. If you do it the proper way, both can provide anonymity. Website requires more investment, time, knowledge. If you are about to do it in small volume, telegram channel should work too. However it depends on your target group, product and many factors.

Website, you take your own safety precautions to make sure everything is encrypted and not traceable back to you.

Telegram you rely on a second-party keeping your information safe. Sure you can use virtual phonenumbers, burners and so forth, but your signal can always be triangulated, there's no escaping that.

There is always a risk with everything, if you are ready to face the consequences of your actions then I would say it does not matter.

If you are not, stay out of the game, there is no 100% safety for either of us, just slowing down the process of being found or to low profile that it is not worth the chase.

This is only my 5-cents.

If you have to ask you're going to make a complete mess of setting up your own Tor website and create a paper trail the size of manhattan. Your own Tor site will provide more safety but only if you know what you're doing otherwise it'll backfire in a legendary fashion. Things are set up to automatically flag anyone trying to get a little bit too clever about things.

Just don't run anything for too long I think of sunfish.biz and a certain website with seagulls to prove this point

Running your tor website will definitely be a lot more secure if you set it up correctly over a secure operating system e.g. qubes-whonix

Telegram does encrypt your communication but it does not make you anonymous. We can tell that this app is not designed for anonymity as they literally ask for your number when signing up. They are definitely logging your location as they can see the IP of the place you are signing up / signing into your account. The tor network is specifically designed to encrypt your communication and to make you anonymous by design by bouncing your connections through multiple relays. Put some time and effort into learning how to safely and anonymously run your own website and study some advertising and then it would be extremely difficult and not worthwhile for LE to catch you.

Also, you may be thinking about signing up to telegram and only signing in while connected to a VPN but even in that case, the tor network is still a lot more secure as VPNs are no where near as good as making you anonymous and VPN companies will log you even if they claim they don't. VPNs only bounce you through one server so if LE gain a warrant, the VPN company will reveal your true Identity.

You can easely install telegram on tails, whonix or qubes and create an account using a virtual number paid in monero, you won't have the possibility to create private and encripted chat, but at least you will be anonymous. NEVER use telegram on a phone even if you use a VPN and even if you use grapheneOS on a pixel. Dealing on the darkweb, in markets or on your own shop will definitely be always more secure. Be safe.

What if using Telegram on a phone with VPN + TOR (with the Telegram settings set to exclusively connect through TOR nodes)?
