Large Scale Benzaldehyde/Piperonal Route

I'm trying to evaluate what method might be best to proceed with a large-scale production of amphetamines, both MD and unsubstituted.

I know there are basically two options here, the darzens and the nitroaldol. Now, to me, the darzens seems rhe better way, but the nitroethane route is also good, just seemingly a bit more tedious.

However, I have not performed these reactions at scale. I would appreciate it if anyone could dicuss the particular trends of issues with either of these routes, so I can make an educated decision on how to proceed.

Start at 100kg and padlock the lid , and come back in a week , and see if your labs still there
