After the reduction, most of the amine will be in the IPA, you can try to extract from the water with IPA, clean the combined IPA and and dry it. Then you drop in if you access to 20% H2SO4 in IPA. To pH 7 or 6.5 can't remember the specifics. You will create the mescaline hemisulfate so 2 mesc...
Yes, 2,5-DMNS seemed to give off less heat and did not react as vigorously as 3,4,5-TMNS at the same amounts. I was able to add the DMNS quicker and it fully dissolved, i.e. no orange/yellow was left. While I could not get the reaction mixture to go fully milky white with 3,4,5-TMNS, always a...
Dump in the nitrostyrene about 3 large spoonfuls at a time under crushed ice-salt-bit of water cooling. The sodium borohydride/IPA/h20 should be cooled to about 5 -8 celcius when you begin the nitrostyrene addition, as when you add a larger amount of nitrostyrene it does heat up some.
If you...
Well it works for P2NP to amine so it should work on other nitropropenes. However on The Vesp there is a post writing that for DOM, TMA-2, reduction there is a problem with crystallization. Get some sort of oil that does not crystallize. (could be wrong choice of salt)
However post only by one...
2c-e also does not seem difficult in the end:

You've already learned the Henry reaction, now do the NaBH4+ Cu(II)Cl reduction and all will fall into place.
Oh and there was even some...
Yes Rabidreject, bromination is no longer a problem. Pick up some NBS (N-Bromosuccinimide). But you need to have made clean 2c-h Hcl or 2c-h Oxalate. But it is not that difficult.
Now there is a non-toxic and safe synth to 2c-b you can do at home. NaBH4 + Cu(II)Cl reduction and NBS bromination...
This seems to be the correct colour but it looks very chunky and wet still. I remember reading that the excess nitromethane is hard to get rid of, so that is why in general I think you should use an excess of GAA instead for these reactions. Might also be that GAA results in a cleaner product...
Entry from Purification of Laboratory Chemicals, 6th edition:
Solubility not given. I have some 5-MeO-Tryptamine and I understand that one more so than tryptamine needs to be white and pure before proceeding with a reaction.
I am thinking of trying Hailstorm's method...
Hey. I have experience making both 3,4,5-Trimethoxynitrostyrene (TMNS) and 2,5-Dimexthoxynitrostyrene (DMNS). Won't read over this whole thread but will paste my thoughts from a post I made on another forum as regards to the choice of catalyst:
2-HEAA (2-(hydroxy)ethylammonium acetate) from...
Yes! Nitromethane will be very handy when making a variety of compounds. 2c-b for example. Also get some ethylenediamine. By far the best catalyst when making nitrostyrenes.
I have not done this synthesis but when making 2c-b using a very similar method the water layer falls to the bottom once it picks up sodium borohydride. Likewise water and IPA separate when one holds the freebase.
IPA and water are completely miscible BUT they will form layers IN CERTAIN...
