I guess I’m not writing my questions properly. I’ll try again. Thanks
we’re mixing the methanol/methylamine with MgSO4 to dry traces of water. This methanol/methylamine is a solvent or a gas? How do I make this with methylamine hcl cause that’s what I have.
Sorry my questions seems dumb. Im very confused here
Precursors drying.
First quickly crunch your pre-dried (oven, 300 °C, 3 hrs.) dry MgSO4 to pop corn shaped rocks in a mortar, sieve the powder out, and directly put the rocks under max. mixing in the Methanol/Methylamine mix (1000 ml) and...
10% Methylamine in Methanol (w/w) - 1000 ml with 100 g MeNH2 (~3 moles
to make this from methylamine hcl, I was instructed with this procedure ? Is it correct? Thanks!
add equivalent of NaOH and methylamine hcl
Extract with dcm
Remove dcm
Dissolve in h20 by ratio
After adding DCM it “looks” like DCM is on top with some oil. Which makes me think twice perhaps I did something wrong. Because the bottom layer colour looks like the original water colour.
Thanks @G.Patton Will try this. And if it proves to be water soluble salt. How to move forward?
And another question. Next, Extraction of the water layer with DCM, do I keep top or bottom? Thanks!
I am also having the same problem as @Costa. First batch I made came out fine.
2nd batch made with larger amount same ratio ,following the same instructions, also lumpy precipitate after cooling down past 30 degrees. Anyone know why? Thanks
makes sense. Thank you. So does this mean I can not use ethanol, or rather, I need to heat to 78c to dissolve methylamine and then add NaOH once dropped back to 20c?
How long should it take to rise and drop back down to 20c?
and after adding P2P oil, how long should it take to rise and fall back to 8C? I haven’t seen anything drop under 20c…..
Methanol and methylamine hcl dissolved. NaOH was added and it clumped up sticky. Temperature up to 28. Dropped to 24.5 and holding. What seems to be wrong?
