i second this. gearing up for large scale production is costly and the chance someone has the money for a 50 or 100l reaction vessel is not realistic . not at first. I do see their value and wholeheartedly approve getting one or even one at 100l and one at 5l.

That should read anhydrous ammonia. Not hydroxide. water is dangerous in this reaction. Also, If the starting ephedrine is racemic, the end result will be racemic. it needs to be l ephedrine
