Question is phenylephrine good for anything?

Given that phenylephrine is ineffective as an analgesic/decongestant, but has nevertheless achieved market dominance among OTC-products as a pseudo-replacement for pseudoephedrine (a contradictory outcome characteristic of the anti-science prohibitionists who caused it)

I've been wondering if phenylephrine could be used as starting material for any interesting synthesis... or is it literally a completely useless industry prop?

as far as i know..... no. it would be easier to begin from scratch than to modify that garbage into anyting useful.... at least from what i know..
